We are thrilled to announce that we are one of the Royal Victoria Marathon official charities as part of the 2023 CHEK Charity Pledge Program.
The 43rd annual Royal Victoria Marathon will be held October 6 – 8, 2023 with the new 5K and Thrifty Foods Kids Run taking place on Saturday, October 7 in Oak Bay, followed by Marathon, Half Marathon and 8K on Sunday, October 8 in downtown Victoria.
Through the Royal Victoria Marathon, we are able to raise both awareness and donations by encouraging people to run or walk on our behalf, forming teams and/or collecting pledges. As well, every participant can donate to one of the official charities while they are registering.
“The interest in our charity program grew from 11 charities in 2022 to 21 this year,” says Cathy Noel, GM and Race Director, RVM. “We love the fact that charities are able to focus on what they do best and use our events as a platform to raise money and awareness. The Royal Victoria Marathon also wins as a result of charity participation as we are able to reach new participants, furthering our goal to provide the vehicle towards living a healthier life.”
“In our first 18 years of the charity program we have raised $2.5 million,” adds Mandy Parker, Chair, CHEK Charity Pledge Program. “We would like to exceed $2.6 million for our 19th year. There are a number of ways participants can help raise money for our charities, from donating to a charity when registering, through to making a team and collecting pledges. Every dollar is an important one.”
One of the first opportunities for charities to raise money will be through the upcoming RVM National Participaction Community Challenge, brought to you by RVM and thetrackclub.ca! This training opportunity is aimed for those new to running/walking, or those who need a refresher and are looking for excellent training, inspiration, and motivation. The $15 fee goes directly to the charities. The Team Track Nights will take place at PISE on June 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm.
