Broadmead Care’s Kms4Care event has officially wrapped up its third year in a row. This virtual event challenges participants to complete 35 kilometres during the month of October, while raising funds to support one or all Broadmead Care Homes.
The purpose of Kms4Care is to engage our community in a fitness-related fundraiser, empowering anyone to complete 35 KM any way possible. Our goal was to raise $15,000 to help meet urgent needs at our Care Homes – and thanks to the incredible support of our community, we succeeded! In fact, we raised $18,840!
There were 10 different teams participating in the challenge, with a total of 41 participants. That’s more than 1,400 kilometres clocked for long term care! From burpees and marathons to cycling from Vancouver to Whistler, our participants deserve praise for their creativity and perseverance.
Even the residents at Rest Haven Lodge got in on the action, teaming up as the Rest Haven Angels, and taking on the challenge of walking 35 kilometers. Activity Worker Taryn, who has coached the Rest Haven Angels team since Kms4Care started in 2020, said, “Kms4Care empowers residents to get outdoors and be active together, and gives them a sense of purpose. They can keep fit and feel good while making a difference through their efforts. They log their kilometres while walking around the Rest Haven Lodge gardens, on an outing, or by pedalling a stationary bike indoors. They love it because they get to connect with each other, the community, and nature. It is truly awe inspiring to watch their dedication and determination! I am grateful to be able to share in their joy and accomplishments.”
