Helen was born in Lingan, Cape Breton Island, on June 24, 1925.

She and her aunt signed joined the Army in 1942, and were stationed in Halifax, NS until the end of the war. Helen considers the time she spent serving her country as “the finest of days.”

VE Day brought great celebration! The women ‘celebrated’ by being confined to barracks, and offered the choice of two beers, or four chocolate bars. Helen and her pals gratefully chose the chocolate.

You can help veterans like Helen enjoy the comforts of home and simple pleasures by making a donation today.
