Dear Family and Friends,
These past few weeks have shown us the tremendous resilience and strength of the people who live and work in our Care Homes. We recently shared this quote with our staff: Tough times never last, but tough people do. We believe progress is being made in our communities, cities, and province, and we are encouraged by the daily improvements we are seeing. Keeping people safe is our number one priority; we are proud of the way our staff has pulled together as a team to meet the challenges of the past several weeks, and we will continue to do so as long as we need to.
Welcome New Residents and Families
We would like to say a warm welcome to the new residents who have entered our Care Homes in the past few weeks. We look forward to having them as part of the Broadmead Care family.
For people moving in from the hospital or from the community, we will be caring for that resident for 14 days in their room to meet current orders from the Public Health Officer.
Stay ‘N Play Grand Finale
It’s been quite a week for our all-new Stay ‘N Play event. We weren’t able to hold our Annual Charity Golf Tournament this year, so we creatively refocussed our fundraising efforts on a virtual event – and we weren’t quite sure what to expect.
We’ve been amazed by the generosity of your response. Together we’ve raised $95,000 so far – and we’re not stopping there – with your help, we can make it $100,000! Your donations fund important programs and equipment not covered by Island Health, helping provide important equipment purchases, programs, and the comforts of home for the veterans and seniors who live with us. There’s still time to get in on the 50/50 draw (current winnings are more than $800! – open to BC residents only), the Diamond Raffle, and our online auction.
Join us for our live-streamed Grand Finale and a chance to win the $1,000 gift card from our friends at Capital Iron, tomorrow, June 4 at 4pm. Attendance is limited to 500 spots – don’t miss out! Click on the button that says Live Event to be connected to the broadcast.
We’re looking forward to returning to the Annual Charity Golf Tournament returning next year, and we are ever grateful for the ways you’ve ‘stayed and played’ with us this year.
We Miss You, Too
This week we want to share with you these words from one of our entertainers.
I’ve been entertaining at long term care homes as far back as 1976. After visiting a few homes, it became evident that seniors were my kind of people. Whenever I sat with them and spent a bit of time listening, I realized they had so much to share. Many recounted their childhood or experiences they lived through during the war, or how they lived through some natural disaster, or even how they witnessed the growth of communities around them. Seniors are a wealth of information!
I miss them very much. No matter how seriously they are affected by illness or dementia, they rewarded me with smiles or handshakes (pre-COVID-19) that are indeed priceless. Whenever I finished a show and went home, I always felt that I had gained more than I could ever give them.
We value our volunteers and entertainers so much, and look forward to the day when we can all celebrate being together again. We continue to support the people who live and work at Broadmead Care in their extraordinary efforts to further The Broadmead Way during these challenging times. Thank you for the ways you help us keep everyone in our Care Homes safe.
The next Family & Friends newsletter is scheduled for Wednesday, June 17.
