We have just learned today that the Province of BC has announced it is extending the interval between the first and second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine from 6 to 16 weeks. B.C. health officials said international and Canadian data support the extended timeline, finding a high effectiveness from the first vaccine dose alone. This one dose significantly protects residents while waiting for their second dose.
What you need to know
Broadmead Care vaccination clinics scheduled for this week have been postponed and will be rescheduled to align with this new provincial timeline.
Questions?
- As a family member you are not required to take any steps in rescheduling your loved one’s second vaccine. Broadmead Care will ensure that this is done and will provide the information to you when it is available.
- What about new resident admissions to Broadmead Care homes? New residents will still be able to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine if they have not already received it before moving in.
While this is an unexpected change, this is good news for all British Columbians: as more receive their first dose, it will bring us another step closer to reuniting families with their loved ones.
Thank you for your continued support as we move forward together.
