Discover the stories of the veterans who live at Veterans Memorial Lodge.
Broadmead Care is proud to present Heroes Among Us, a special feature in the Times Colonist honouring Canada’s veterans and the stories of their service.
In 2026, we are at an important moment. The Second World War is moving from living memory into history. Soon, there will be no one left who can tell those stories firsthand.
That is why their voices matter now more than ever.
Heroes Among Us shares the personal stories of veterans at Broadmead Care, from the Second World War and Korean War to more recent conflicts and peacekeeping missions. Their stories help us understand the people behind the history and the courage, sacrifice and strength that shaped their lives.

Be the gift and bring comfort to Canada’s veterans
Broadmead Care is raising vital funds to rebuild six bathing rooms at Veterans Memorial Lodge. These spaces provide important therapeutic care for Canada’s veterans and seniors, but they urgently need upgrades to meet modern health standards.
Each renovation costs more than $100,000. Your donation can help create safe, comfortable and dignified spaces for the people who call Veterans Memorial Lodge home.
