Masking and visitor guidelines: Ministry of Health

On January 8, 2025, the Ministry of Health issued a new Policy for Infection Prevention and Control Measures for Preventing Viral Respiratory Illnesses, including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and COVID-19. This updated policy takes effect immediately, and will remain in place until the viral respiratory season is officially declared over.

What you need to know

Masking requirements

  • Staff who are providing direct care in resident areas must wear a medical mask, and additional protective gear when warranted.
  1. Visitor guidelines
    • When visiting, you are not required to wear masks to walk through the hallways, while spending time with your loved one in their room, or in communal areas.
    • However, if there is more than one resident in a resident’s room, please respect the other person’s space. If curtains are available, please draw them.
    • Group activities are proceeding as planned, and you are welcome to join in them. You should wear a mask when participating in indoor group activities, except when eating or drinking.
    • There is no restriction on the number of visitors.
    • You will not be screened by Broadmead Care staff, but if you are feeling ill or have symptoms, you should avoid coming to the Home.
  1. Hand hygiene and enhanced cleaning
    • We will provide alcohol-based hand sanitizer at key points, including entrances and resident care areas. Please clean your hands when entering or leaving our Homes.
    • Enhanced cleaning and disinfection of high-touch surfaces will continue twice daily.

This temporary Ministry of Health policy will help protect everyone in our Homes, and will help reduce the risk of spreading viruses.
