It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Isabel Marie Phillips who died peacefully in Victoria, BC October 1st 2022, following a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was 81 years old. She is survived by her husband, Michael to whom she was married for 60 years. Together, they had 3 children: Jill (Kevin) Sing, Andrew (Joanne) Phillips and Shea (Danielle) Phillips, 8 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Isabel was born in a small village in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She had 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Her Cape Breton roots are deep and her personality reflected the feisty, warm, family loving spirit of those who live there. Above all, she loved her family as well as dogs, horses, penguins, the outdoors, and showing for antiques! Being in her company always meant fun and laughter.
Isabel became an elementary school teacher after graduating from Normal College and taught in Halifax, Kentville and Greenwood, NS. Apart from being a wonderful wife and mother to her children, Isabel had many talents and interests. She was an artist, a tennis player, a cross-country and alpine skier, a cyclist, a fantastic hiker, and even a runner! When Michael retired in 2000, Isabel was able to follow her dream of adventure travel and for the next 17 years, together they visited and trekked in many exotic places around the world.
Isabel was an early member of the Voices in Motion choir and a longtime member of both the Outdoor Club of Victoria and Cordova Bay 55+ Association.
The Phillips family want to express their thanks to the wonderful staff at Broadmead Veterans Memorial Lodge who provided professional and loving care to Isabel through a difficult time.
Please join us in remembering Isabel’s wonderful life on October 22nd 2022 at the Broad View United Church, 2625 Arbutus Rd at 2:00pm with reception to follow.
