Accreditation is an ongoing process of assessing health and social services organizations against standards of excellence to identify what is being done well, and what needs improvement.
Most healthcare organizations in Canada are accredited through Accreditation Canada, which sets nationally recognized standards for all aspects of organizational performance — and there are more than 600 standards! Accreditation Canada inspires people to make positive change that improves the quality of health and social services in Canada and around the world.
In 2022, Broadmead Care was awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing — the highest award possible.
What is Accreditation Canada?
Accreditation Canada is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that meets extensive third-party accreditation requirements from the Standards Council of Canada, the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) and the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC).
Accreditation Canada inspires people around the world to improve outcomes through independent assessments against global standards. For more than 60 years, Accreditation Canada has been working with health, social and community service organizations to advance quality and safety. By meeting or exceeding the requirements of these national standards, Broadmead Care is able to assure our funders, clients, residents, and their families of the quality and safety of our programs and services.
Like Broadmead Care, Accreditation Canada strongly believes that a person-centered philosophy will transform healthcare. They have more than 410 patients, providers, practitioners, experts, and policy makers who actively participate in their standard development technical committees and scientific advisory councils. Their People Powered Health philosophy brings different perspectives, experiences, learnings and insights together to foster positive change and continuous quality improvement.
Why is Accreditation important?
Accreditation is important because it helps create better healthcare and social services for your loved one, your family, and your community. It allows organizations to understand how to make better use of their resources, increase efficiency, enhance quality and safety, and reduce risk. When you see the Accreditation Canada seal, you can be certain that the healthcare organization is working hard to meet our standards to deliver safe, high-quality care. They do so because better quality means better health.
How often is Broadmead Care assessed by Accreditation Canada?
Broadmead Care last received Accreditation with Commendation in 2022. Previously, accreditation was examined every three years. However, the organization is working on a change to their process with a new continuous model intended to help teams measure and improve on an ongoing basis to keep quality and safety top of mind throughout the entire accreditation cycle. More information will be provided about this process as it is available. Visit the Accreditation Canada website for more information.
