SUMMARY

Under the administrative direction of the Nigel Program Manager and with clinical support from the Coordinator of Therapy Services, the physiotherapist provides services for residents at Nigel House and Harriet House. 

The physiotherapist plans, develops, implements and evaluates physical therapy programs and services, communicates in oral and written format resident clinical and program needs to the interdisciplinary team and community agencies; carries out administrative duties associated with the provision of the physical therapy program; oversees the implementation of components of the physical therapy care plans and activity programs by therapy assistants, resident care staff, and activity workers.  Participation in interdisciplinary team rounds and care conferences is also required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Graduation from a university with an approved program in Physiotherapy,  as well as   current registration in good standing, or eligible for registration with the College of Physiotherapists of British Columbia: eligible for membership in the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

Experience:

  • Experience providing physical therapy services in a long term care and/or community health setting with adults who have chronic mental health, physical and psychosocial disabilities.
  •  Experience working with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience working with adults with neurological disorders is considered an asset. 

General Competencies:

  • Competency in organization of workplace; operation of equipment and prioritization and management of duties.
  • Effective verbal communication skills with clients of varying levels of cognition, families, and staff. 
  • Effective written communication skills via email and online documentation in clinical records. 
  • Able to maintain confidentiality in all written and verbal communication related to the client and families.
  • Cooperative and effective manner in problem solving with staff, residents, family members, volunteers and paid companions.
  • Capable of working efficiently, both independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team whose team members have diverse backgrounds.
  • Sound interpersonal and instructional skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff, students and volunteers where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of software applications, particularly word processing, excel and e-mail
