About the Foundation

Every year, the Foundation hosts three major fundraising events. Each helps raise awareness of the work we do in a fun, memorable and meaningful way, while raising much-needed funding. For event details, sponsorship opportunities and ticket sales, click the links below.

Footprints to Remember (November 8, 2008):
The Wardroom at CFB Esquimalt will be transformed on November 8, 2008 as the Broadmead Care Foundation celebrates its 5th Annual "Footprints to Remember Gala Honouring Past and Serving Members of the Canadian Forces". The theme for the Gala this year is a celebration of the safe return of HMCS PROTECTEUR.

Forty nine years ago Captain (N) Ret'd Peter Hinton Commissioned PROTECTEUR and was her first Commander.Peter speaks fondly of her even though he is now living with advanced stage Alzheimer disease at The Lodge at Broadmead.

The Gala Evening is our major fund raising event of the year. The event occurs at that time of year when all Canadians are remembering the deeds and sacrifices of our Veterans and Serving Members. Guests can participate in a great silent auction and enjoy a wonderful dinner followed by dancing to the Swiftsure Big Band.

Tickets are available through the Foundation Office in The Lodge at Broadmead for $100 each and a tax receipt will be issued for a portion of the costs. If you wish to use Visa or MasterCard to pay for your tickets, you can call the office at 250 655-0645 and we will send them out to you.

Funds raised from this event will be used toward the costs of renovating and upgrading three dining rooms used by the Veterans and seniors living at The Lodge at Broadmead.

5th Annual Charity Golf Tournament
:

With the cooperation of the weather this year, the 5th annual golf tournament was a resounding success. Teams challenged the course which was in excellent shape. The event grossed $36,000.This is possible thanks to our many supporters. Of special note, we would like to acknowledge and thank Investors Group Financial Services Inc. and Tom Martin of Esso Car Clinic on Hillside for their generous support over the history of the tournament.

Congratulations to our first place team: Luc Caron, Trevor Walters and Wayne Ironmonger (missing) pictured above with Sharon Gillean-Shalinsky, Chair of the Foundation and Tom Martin.

The Foundation also acknowledges and bids farewell to Major General (Ret'd) Herb Pitts and Vice Admiral (Ret'd) Nigel Brodeur. Their leadership of the tournament went above and beyond the call of duty. We also acknowledge the tremendous efforts of Jim Parker who we hope to see back next year.

If you would like to get involved with the organization of the 2009 tournament, contact the Foundation office at 658-3220.

Special Thanks
