Excellent Working Conditions, Compensation and Benefits
We try very hard to balance the interests and needs of new on-call employees when we are determining work schedules and availability in advance.
Hourly rates of pay, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment compare favourably with unionized Vancouver Island Health Authority and affiliate employers.
The annual hours of work for our employees is based on an average 35-hour week. Other VIHA employers base theirs on an average 36.25 hour work week.
Most of our full time employees work a 4 on, 2 off schedule, working 7.5 hour shifts. This means they enjoy an additional 10 paid days off in-lieu, per year.
Our employees are hired under the Public Service Act, and when they are eligible, contribute to the Public Service Pension Plan. The Public Service Plan has provisions that slightly exceed those of the Municipal Pension Plan, which applies to the majority of other unionized health care employers. See www.pensionsbc.ca for more information. |
